Dusting It Off, Picking It up, Starting All Over Again!

Remember when I used to post here?

I wrote about food, family, friends and stitching stuff?

I'm back.

But I am going to throw in politics now.

I hear ya groaning. It's not for everyone. But...

I was raised in the legendary, smoke filled, back rooms of the Democratic Party.
My first words were "Bote Kennky!" which I repeated on cue as my Daddy took me around our staunchly Republican county in northwestern North Carolina while he campaigned for local, state and national candidates. I was less than a year old when I joined President Kennedy's campaign!

This evening as childhood friend of mine asked if I could give her a statement and share some pictures from yesterday's Women's March. She lives in our hometown and writes for the local paper. I marched in Raleigh, NC where I live now.

Here's what I wrote for her:

There are so many reasons to participate in events like the Women's March NC. I marched to honor my wonderful Grandmothers, Holbrook and Porter, who taught me to always be truthful and guided me to think for myself and be strong in my beliefs. I also marched to protest for rights of those who are and will be marginalized by our state and national governments' policies — women, LGBTQ, minorities, immigrants and the disabled. I am terrified by most of President Trump’s choices for his cabinet. They hold strong beliefs against people I hold dear. I have marched before, attended a few of the Moral Monday rallies and will continue to do so. Nothing is ever solved by marching but much can be learned from one's fellow marchers and from the folk who address the gathering. It is exhilarating and comforting to be immersed in a group that wants to affect the world through their words and works.

(Not me - just some nice ladies we met along the way.)

I have always been quick to say what is on my mind. I have always stood up for myself and others.

But I have also kept quiet out of a sense of decorum,
out of fear,
out of ignorance.

No more.

I will NOT sit still and let others suffer.

I will speak out.
I will act out.

I will still post stuff about food, family, friends and stitching stuff.

Fabulous Friday! Computers suck.

I have been writing, saving and thinking up new blog entries.

My computer hates me though.

It's long overdue for a tune - up.

Fingers crossed that my daughter's super smart boyfriend can attend to this on Sunday.

I'm having trouble loading pictures amongst other aggravating factors.

Tomorrow I am headed to Greensboro where I will scoop up my pal, Becky
We're headed to the Queen City - Charlotte, NC.

I've dubbed it the "Becky's Take IKEA Trip."

No boys allowed.

We plan to shop IKEA and hit a few Thrift Shops in the surrounding area.

Becky and I always find the best stuff.
I know you are all jealous of our couture style.

We plan to shop and shop and talk and shop and shop.
Might eat some foods too.

Have a super weekend folks!

And if you see us headed your way -
LOOK OUT!

We are women on a mission!

 See our game faces?

It's on!

What's on your Needles Wednesday?

What's on Your Needles?

It's Wednesday.
Whatcha workin on?

I know how your crafty mind works. Just like mine, right?

You have more than one project going at any given time, right?
If you're not crafting, you're thinking about crafting.

Unless you're thinking about stuff I don't really want to know about.

Okay - eeewww - keep that to yourself.
Please.

Currently on my needles -

a super secret embroidery,

an afghan,

and a shoe hanger/storage thingy.
I'm making 4 of these for us. E'er day I'm trippin over shoes!

Recently finished -

A blankie for my childhood friend's newest family member, Maegan Gabrielle.

I used vintage animal designs that belonged to my Great Aunt Pearl.
I also sneaked in my Clempzin Tiger colors on the cat. heehee

The back is this Democrat fabric
I stitched/quilted 3 little donkeys in each corner.

A Redskins knit cap - toboggan, as we call it in The South.
Yeah, I finished knitting it late one night and had to get a pic right then!
Like my bright blue flan`nel gown?

And a purple sweater for Rosie.
Oh heck, have you been introduced?
This is my new baby, Rosie.
Brought her home from the Wake County Animal Shelter last Fall.
.
She's a Terrier mix, maybe 5 years old, about 12 pounds and I loves her!

So, what's on YOUR needles?

Super Saturday

As if Thursday and Friday weren't filled with enough excitement!
I was out the door again with my pal Anne to Rising Meadow Farm for
their annual Shearing Day.

Rising Meadow is a beautiful sheep farm nestled in the middle of North Carolina.
Some of these sheep have already been sheared. The rest are waiting their turn.

Not a great pic - sorry.
This guy is a Master at shearing. He uses clippers and his left hand even though he is right handed.
We were amazed at his speed!

This is Emily. She has been hand clipper shearing for 2 years and is as fast as her mentor!

This is the fleece once clipped. Natural wool is so very luxurious! The natural lanolins remain and coat one's hands as you card, spin and use the yarn.

 This is a llama
(or an Alpaca - I can't tell the difference.)
They serve as guards for the sheep. I've been told the coyotes are more scared of them than of the dogs.

5 years ago when on a Field Trip to this farm we got to meet the animals up close and the llamas were very kissy face with us.
No, they do not spit in your eyes and blind you!
Unless you attack one.

Anne and I were windblown and a bit chilly so we left the farm and headed for lunch and thrift shopping!

We ventured into Asheboro, NC where there are a couple of amazing antique/junque shops in their Downtown. But we opted for the Salvation Army store, Goodwill and Christians United Outreach Center.

Here are the books I found.

Here are the crafty kits I bought.

And my Fave find of the day -

For those surprises I mentioned yesterday.
Jordan received a turn table for Christmas and has been amassing quite an impressive collection of vinyl. I found this gem in Raleigh and can't wait to see his face when he sees it. He LOVES "Safety Dance."
The Wake Forest mugs are for Kat and me.

And for my sweet BillHubby who loves to photograph interesting buildings and southern history in decay - a bank.  This is from the late 60's and small enough to fit in the palm of one's hand.

July Celebration in Liberty and We have a Winner!!!

Welcome to the "Bizarre Bazaar" featuring Becky of Sew In Stitches and Libby of Glassifications.
This is our first joint show and our tent was festive but sorta mishy mashy.  As soon as we broke down I was coming up with ideas for better display for this weekend's show in Garner, NC
We didn't sell much but no one else did either.
What we did is have fun!
Libby and I have the sweetest Hubbys in the world.
Both named Bill.
They stayed to help and keep us company.
And check this out!
That's me with Debbie Lyall-Church.  From my hometown!
We hadn't seen each other in 30 years!
 Talk about catching up.
She makes and sells the most adorable hair bows, headbands, tutus and diaper pants evah!

Please show some love and check her website
It's still under construction but you can shoot her an e-mail or give her a call to order from her.

Ladies, I need a bit of help.
I look positively frumpy in these pics. I know my vintage apron had too much stuff in the pocket so it was dipping and letting my shirt untuck.

What do you think? I need ideas on what to wear to convey the vintage aura and stay cool and comfy at these shows.  It was only 96 in the shade last Saturday.  I don't do hot weather very well.

 Help please!

And now for the winner of a $40 gift certificate to CSN Stores!!

Thank you all for playing!
Thank you to CSN for letting me review a product and give y'all a chance to shop their 200+ stores.
The random Number Generator at random.org chose Lucky #8!
Liz Noonan said... cover that sucker in catnip! & thanks for following me xo!
