Thrifty Thursday - August Edition

Where have I been?

Lottsa changes going on 'round here folks.
Bill's new position at North Carolina State University has prompted us to make some tough but wonderful changes.

We are selling the house and moving to Raleigh!
This will be the third state Capital city in which I have lived! I love living in historical surroundings.

Buh-bye to the 45 minute one way commute.
So long to over $250 a month for gasoline.
See ya later being stuck at home cause
we just have one car.

Hello Big City of The Oaks!
Greetings 20 minute drive to work.
Welcome sidewalks, walkable neighborhood and
I can walk there shopping centers.
And city buses.
I like buses.

Whew!
The PODS unit is in the yard.
It's nice to be able to fill it at my own (slow) speed.
We are planning a big indoor/outdoor yard sale for the last weekend in August.

I am going through every thing with a
critical set of eyes.
I am trying to be ruthless.
If I haven't looked at it/forgot I even had it/what was I thinking, then it's outta here.

Lots of crafty books.
I would love to share them with you.
I have created another page here with the list
and instructions.

If you see something you NEED ;)
All I ask is for you to message me -
beckysews [at]hotmail[dot]com
and I'll tell you how much the postage will be.

That's it - pay the postage and you have new crafty books for your enjoyment.

The list will change as books are shared and as I go through another room.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As promised on facebook - here are the before and after pics of my Clemson University roommate,
Dr. Cindy, and me!
She came down to visit from
Academia in Virginia.
We had a blast talking, eating (twice at Virlie's!), talking, shopping and talking!
Here we are when living in Columbia, SC
30 years ago
Toasting our friends with a tall cold glass of be- I mean, apple juice, yeah, apple juice!
 And here we are just a few weeks ago.
In Pittsboro, NC
Toasting our friends with little glasses of wi- errrm,
Water!
Haven't changed a bit have we?
 Off to pack boxes and find more treasure to sell.
 Wish me luck!
Giveaways around BloggieLand and a Winner!!
 While it's 100+ according to the Heat Index I have been busy staying inside and sewing!
I really do not like hot weather.
Here's one cutie little apron I made.  Reversible and child size with a fabric rose hair clip.
I love the precious Japanese fabric with those bunnies!!
Sunday I tried to play "catch up" on my bloggie reading.  Wow.  I was way behind.  And I still didn't finish but some Sunday afternoons just beg me to take a nap ;)
As I perused the vacations pics, the fun projects and all the latest bloggie news I found a few GiveAways that I thought you might want to enter.  Then again, if you don't enter my chances are better. heehee
First up - Angie of Mama Lusco Handmade is home from vacation with pictures!!
Beware - some are of a hot country singer!
She is giving away this adorable headband.
It's reversible too!
Next, I visited Elizabeth at Thoughts from an Evil Overlord.  Don't be skeert!  She really isn't evil.  As a matter of fact she's really sweet and loves to read.  She reviews books and often has an extra to give away. This time it's The Island by Elin Hilderbrand.
Finally, our friends over at Craft Gossip are having an amazing giveaway!
They are offering 3 Etsy shopping sprees
(each to a maximum value of $100).
They will also pay for shipping.
thlvintage has these bindings that I really, really need!
So there ya have it!  My wish list is done.
Maybe we can both win!!!
July Celebration in Liberty and We have a Winner!!!
 Welcome to the "Bizarre Bazaar" featuring Becky of Sew In Stitches and Libby of Glassifications.
This is our first joint show and our tent was festive but sorta mishy mashy.  As soon as we broke down I was coming up with ideas for better display for this weekend's show in Garner, NC
We didn't sell much but no one else did either.
What we did is have fun!
  Libby and I have the sweetest Hubbys in the world.
Both named Bill.
They stayed to help and keep us company.
And check this out!
That's me with Debbie Lyall-Church.  From my hometown!
We hadn't seen each other in 30 years!
 Talk about catching up.
She makes and sells the most adorable hair bows, headbands, tutus and diaper pants evah!
 Please show some love and check her website
It's still under construction but you can shoot her an e-mail or give her a call to order from her.
Ladies, I need a bit of help.
I look positively frumpy in these pics. I know my vintage apron had too much stuff in the pocket so it was dipping and letting my shirt untuck.
What do you think? I need ideas on what to wear to convey the vintage aura and stay cool and comfy at these shows.  It was only 96 in the shade last Saturday.  I don't do hot weather very well.
 Help please!
 And now for the winner of a $40 gift certificate to CSN Stores!!
Thank you all for playing!
Thank you to CSN for letting me review a product and give y'all a chance to shop their 200+ stores.
The random Number Generator at random.org chose Lucky #8!
Liz Noonan said... cover that sucker in catnip! & thanks for following me xo!
 I will e-mail you with details!
Review and GiveAway Fun!
 We had a wonderful long weekend! How about you?
Saturday, Bill and I attended Greensboro, NC's Fun Fourth Festival.
We only went for the music.
We were not disappointed.
Ladies and Gentlemen, From Carrboro,NC
Big Fat Gap
Bluegrass at its finest.
Everyone enjoyed the tunes!
Here's one nano-second that Bill wasn't running around snappin pics!
From all over NC - Hobex! A favorite of my entire family.
Gotta love Andy Ware's purple pants!
Fresh from his Prague tour- Greg Humphreys!
The beautiful Taz Halloween! After the show. We is sassy wimmens!
Now for Giveaway fun!!!
CSN stores generously allowed me to choose a product from one of their 200+ stores. I received and reviewed said product - a sofa protecting cat scratching post.
  • Available in various neutral carpet colors - shipped at random
  • Encourages cats to scratch on it instead of expensive furniture
  • Treated with organic catnip oil
  • Pros: Inexpensive, Protects Furniture, Just The Right Size, Attractive Design
  • Cons: Cat Doesn't Use It, Wobbly base
3out of 5
This is a well-built product in the sense that it is just the right height to protect our sofa corner. The base is wobbly though. We added a weight from a former floor lamp to stabilize it.
Sadly, Our cats have no interest in it at all. Even after adding more catnip! But I think that is just their personalities rather than any fault of the product.(legalese)
Hopefully Stanley, who is the main sofa scratcher, will soon understand what he is supposed to do with is new post!
CSN Stores is also offering a $40 Gift Certificate to one of my wonderful readers!!  It's too hot outside to think a whole bunch, so I'm gonna make this simple.
Leave me a comment about your 4th of July weekend or about how to convince a formerly feral cat to use the scratching post rather than the sofa.
One entry per person.
Comment before this Sunday, July 11, Midnight PDST (yeah, that's 3am EDST.)
I will use the Random Number Generator to choose a winner and announce here on Monday.
Be sure I have a way to reach you by e-mail!
