Vintage Thingys Thursday

Welcome back for Vintage Thingys Thursday!!

Today I have a few items to share from my embroidery stash.

As I have mentioned before, I come from a long line of pack rats. I'm so very glad that my Great Aunt Pearl was a pack-rat.

Here are some of her patterns. Most of her patterns in my collection appear to be from the 40's and are all mail order.

Some have never even been opened!

She had oodles of booklets too. Dusty but pristine!

Here's one I did last night when I should have been sleeping ;)

Often a bonus sheet of embroidery would be sent with her order. Here's one with a piece of felt "in your favorite color." The sheet includes directions to make an embroidered lapel pin.

And here's a cutie that Aunt P had started by transferring the pattern onto the felt. I used the thread that was wrapped in the folded paper and Voila! I have a cute new pin to wear.

For more wonderful Vintage thingys head over to our sweet hostess, Suzanne's blog, ColoradoLady.

Wednesday Weigh-In

Howdeeeeeee!

No change in my weight. I can live with that. I actually haven't tried very hard this week.

Ever get one of those phases when you are not inspired nor motivated? A slump, dry spell, bad period, blight, funk, dip, downswing, downtrend, downturn, drop, dumps, low, rut, sag, stagnation. (I love my thesaurus! It's literally falling apart!) Not quite a depression. Not a hormonal thing either. Just blah.

That's me this week. It may be the heat. It may be worrying about Kat finding a job.

I just haven't the umph to do much creating nor house work (not that I ever really want to do that!) I have managed to get the laundry done. Am gonna iron shirts in a few minutes. Made a killer meatloaf - in 6 small loaves - last night. YUM!!

I have done some embroidery. Just a wee bit. I'll post pics tomorrow for Vintage Thing Thursdays since the patterns were my Aunt Pearl's and from the 40's!

But that's not getting the bridesmaid dress altered for that nice young lady. Nor is it getting the curtains sewn for the nice lady over near the golf course. Our windows are still sorta nekkid and I've had fabric to make BillHubby some shirts for almost 5 years now.

Okay - gonna get off my hiney and iron those shirts before they multiply!

What do you do to get over a slump?

Weigh In Wednesday

Hi y'all.

I have been busy. Kat is finally all moved home. That was a quick road trip on Monday. Last night, Jordan's band, 100 Yorktown, had a show at The (infamous) Cave in Chapel Hill. I just can't stay up late and run all over the place like I used to do!!!

I am sooo sleepy today. Even though I have been busy I evidently wasn't to busy to eat. No weigh loss this week - boooooo. But no weight gain either - Yayyyyy!

Such is life, right?

I have a few shirts to iron and then I am either gonna grab a nap or do some hand sewing. Working on a book cover for a 1949 edition of the Better Homes and Gardens Cookbook.

I'll show you when it's done.

Happy Vintage Thingy Thursday - more family stuff

Happy VTT everyone!

I am having an overly scatter-brained week here. But it's all good.

My son, Jordan, and his roommates have moved a wee bit closer to us - YAY!

Daughter Katharine is moving back home - YAY!! She'll live with us til she finds a place of her own again.

And I have been so busy with all the excitement I didn't even post yesterday's Weigh-In Wednesday. I found a half pound that had been previously lost. Darnit! I did succumb to sitting on my hiney in the air conditioned house rather than getting out and doing though.

Now for something Vintage...............

Yeppers, that there is the stove at my great grandparents house. It's a fancy, fancy wood burner. There's an electric oven over to the left and it's old too but nearly as cool as this old gal.

Don't tell Mom, but I actually fired it up 19 years ago and baked bread in it!! It was in a word - Fabulous!!!!!!

Plus it kept us warm.

Can you imagine keeping a fire stoked all day so you could cook?

It has a water heater on the right side.

I do have the owner's set-up pamphlet too. I actually did not mean to bring it home with me. It was in a bunch of recipe pamphlets I'd left up there ages ago.

oops.

It's Home Comfort Range, Model "DA" made by the Wrought Iron Range Company of 5661 Natural Bridge Avenue, St Louis, Missouri.

One more treasure from the family:

When my beloved Great Aunt Mildred died she left very specific instructions in her will as to what she wanted her favorite niece, my Mom, to have. But this particular portion had us stumped at first - "....Pearls, chicken...." Oooh, a strand of pearls. That's nice. But chicken? Our family is a bit on the wacky side but that's beyond even our weirdness!!!

Can't remember who actually figured it out. But we got a good giggle out of the typo. There it is - Pearl's Chicken!!!

The eldest child, Pearl, was quite a craftster and seamstress and quilter!

This is a heavy, ceramic chicken that she covered with calico scraps! She painted the beak, comb and eyes. And the whole thing is sealed with some (I'm sure toxic) shellac/varnish/mod podge like substance!

Isn't it a hoot? Or should that be "Isn't that something to crow about?"

Okay, okay, I hear ya groanin at that one! hee hee

Now pop on over to our darling hostess, Suzanne's place to see all the other vintage goodies!

I'm gonna do a little workout with the radio on the oldies channel. Talk about vintage!!
