Happy New Year - VTT - Christmas!!!

Happy New Year!!!!

Happy VTT!!!!

I am so far behind I think I may still be in September or October!

Here is one of our trees that was promised two weeks ago!

A real 1950's Pom-Pom tree - aluminum - cried real tears when I found it in a nearby antique store - paid too much but still a reasonable price.  We had been searching for one for 4 years.

The early 1960's stand rotates the tree and has a music box.  Sounds like a Tubular Bells version of Silent Night! eek.

You can see a big glare to the left there.  It's our gen-u-wine rotating color wheel!  Had to search a month and drive a bit over and hour to nab that after finding the tree.

I set it up last year and surprised Bill with it.  It's the perfect size for our small dining table that sits between our living room and den.

We decorate it with ornaments that either represent our childhoods or are actually from our childhood.  (Okay, the old stuff is all from my childhood.)

The game ornaments and new ornaments are pretty obvious.
The old Santas, reindeer, Pixie and mouse are mine from 1960 on.

That Santa with a chimney had candy in it.

and yes, that is a Barbie head.
15-16 years ago, Jordan and his best friend, Malcolm, were tormenting playing with Katharine.  One of the guys - truly an accident - stepped on one of her Barbies and poof - off came her head.  Over the next couple of years there were 2 more headless Barbies.  I saved the heads and they have turned up in all sorts of places.

taped to the underside of a toilet lid
swinging from bedroom fan blades
in shoes when Jordan went off to Campbell U
on pillows while someone slept

You get the picture.  We are pranksters.  Maybe we are the only ones who laugh about it but all you have to say is "Barbie head" and we giggle.

 And our Stockings!
It's an awful picture but I made them all over the years as I birthed children, married Bill, added his kids and a daughter in law.  Next Christmas I can add Grandbaby Aubree!  Just 3 more weeks til her due date!

Hope you all had a wonderful and blessed Christmas!

Hope 2010 is a wonderful year for all.  Thanks for all the love , support, ideas, swaps and BlogLand friendships we have shared!!

VTT- Aunt Sally's Sewing Machine

Happy Vintage Thingys Thursday!!!

Great googly moogly!  Christmas is next week already!!!  Are you ready?  I'm not but I'm not in a panic.  Bill and I have our list made and can knock out shopping in one, maybe two afternoons.

I have been sewing a few things on the latest addition to my sewing machine collection.  Some of you remember my trip this past summer to my Great Grand Parents' Home Place.  Well, this sewing machine was part of what I brought home.

She belonged to my Great Great Aunt Sally Walker Mitchell.  Aunt Sally was my [Grand]Mama's Daddy's Sister.  Never met her and know little about her.  That makes me sad.  But having her machine I can simply imagine her using it.

Mom had the machine on her back porch, covered with junk (not junque.)  Her outdoor Mr. Kitty used it as a hiding place.

No one can remember who nor when she was last used.  I swear I remember Mom using her way back in the late 60's/early 70's.  Mom insists that I am making that up.  I stand firm in my belief that she did use her for a few stitches way back when.

At any rate, after years of neglect and abuse she is mine now.  I cleaned her up, dusted her off, oiled her and replaced her broken treadle wheel pulley.  The original was made of leather.  Those are available but I decided to try rubber screen spline in the same width as the leather I was replacing.  The nice guy at the local hardware store wasn't sure it would work but by Golly! - it do!

She still needs her wood cabinet to be refinished.  Her drawers were full of buttons, bobbins,

doodads and

(a copper pipe?  seriously? and rabies tags from 1947 and 1948!  Wonder what sort of pet?)

the original attachments box and the owner's manual.  Thank goodness too.
It really helped me set her up.
Why didn't aunt Sally fill out the Certificate of Warranty???????  wahhhhh, sob, wipes a tear......

She stitches beautifully and only uses Becky-Power.  I am in sewing nirvana!  The gentle whirring is so calming.

Before you go please check out the thread just before this one and see what a fabulous Secret Santa I have!

Now scoot- go to Suzanne/ColoradoLady's blog and check out the other vintage goodies! Thank you Suzanne for continuing to bring us together every week.

Be sure to stop back next week to see our Christmas Trees.   Yes, trees - plural.

Secret Santa Rocks my world!!!!

Lord Have Mercy!

Or as the kids say - OMG!

I am participating in the Secret Santa Soiree.

My package arrived and I am completely blown away by the wonderfulness and generousness of my Secret Santa!  There was a monetary limit on this swap.  I think my Secret friend must be a bargain shopper of the highest caliber.

Some cherry-flavored hard candies in a festive container.

I love Santa stuff!  A package of paper hand towels - perfect for our guest bath!

An absolutely, positively beautiful hand towel.

Did my Secret Santa do this work herself?

Secret Santa was paying attention!  I love purple!  I love violets!  I've said so here.

But, I never mentioned that purple pansies are a close second favorite but she figured it out!   Isn't the plate just lovely?!

I also love snow and snowmen stuff.

Look at that precious mug with a saucer/lid for my occasional coffee and frequent hot chocolates while I surf the interwebs.

Add a sweet note and the cutest little, decorated with purple flowers, stacking heart shaped box set with a fairy on top-

all beautifully wrapped with bonus ornaments decorating the packages and I feel very, very, very special!

Thank you Secret Santa!

Thank you Amy and Georgia for co-ordinating the 104 of us in this Soiree!

GiveAway time cause Christmastime is near..........

I've been racking my Grinchy Brain- Puzzling and puzzling.....

Where does time go? How is it already December 2009? Where are my other reading glasses?  Why am I so very behind on getting projects finished? Do these jammy pants make my butt look big?  What ever will I make for the Sew, Mama Sew December Give Away?

The answers are simple I think.

Dunno
The calendar says so.
Probably in the bathroom.
You ARE the Queen of Procrasty Nation!

You make have already guessed that my Favs are the all time standards, "A Charlie Brown Christmas" and "How the Grinch Stole Christmas."   They both debuted when I was a wee one and even as an adult I find both charming, funny and strong with the message of the strength of family and friends.

Now if I could just find a recording of the Peanuts Gang singing "Welcome Christmas!"

Nothing says it better than

 Dah who dor-aze!
 Welcome Christmas,
 Come this way!
 Fah who for-aze!
 Dah who dor-aze!
 Welcome Christmas,
 Christmas Day.
 Welcome, Welcome
 Fah who rah-moose
 Welcome, Welcome
 Dah who dah-moose
Christmas day is in our grasp
So long as we have hands to clasp
 Fah who for-aze!
 Dah who dor-aze!
 Welcome Christmas
 Bring your cheer
 Fah who for-aze!
 Dah who dor-aze!
 Welcome all Who's
 Far and near
 Welcome Christmas, fah who rah-moose
 Welcome Christmas, dah who dah-moose
 Christmas day will always be
Just so long as we have we
 Fah who for-aze
 Dah who dor-aze
 Welcome Christmas
 Bring your light
 (Bridge (about 65 sec))
 Welcome Christmas
 Fah who rah-moose!
 Welcome Christmas
 Dah who dah-moose!
 Welcome Christmas
 While we stand
 Heart to heart
 And hand in hand
 Fah who for-aze
 Dah who dor-aze
 Welcome welcome
 Christmas
 Christmas Day
